With the golf season firmly underway, golfers are either already in love with clubs they were previously fit for or getting ready to start the buying process. The best part about right now, is that every equipment manufacturer has all of their options out in the open, meaning golfers get the pick of the litter when it comes to figuring out what to put in the bag.
This is where the Wilson Staff XB irons come in, because with so many options in a crowded marketplace, it can feel that some of the best options can get overlooked, but if you're looking for a set of irons that delivers distance and feel, in a classically shaped package, this could be your perfect set.
RELATED: Wilson Just Built the Staff Iron Line Everyone’s Been Asking For
The Staff XB is Wilson’s first true hollow-body iron built for the modern player's performance category, although the shaping might have you questioning how an iron with such a compact look is actually hollow.

(Wilson Staff XB 7-iron from address)
Hidden behind the thin, fast face is hollow iron packed with a powerful amount of technology to deliver better forgiveness and ball speed on shots hit center and missed away from the sweet spot. It does all of this while still offering premium feel to fit into the rest of the line that includes a cavity back and a blade.
Topology optimization is an incredible tool that effectively tells us where to position mass internally to maximize performance and from this, we developed unique rib configurations for each loft in the XB. Another major focus for us was ensuring we had the best sound and feel in a hollow-body design and we’re confident golfers around the world will appreciate the end result.
-Ben Hanser, Engineer at Wilson Golf.
And all of this technology is built into an iron that utilizes a forged 8620 body to deliver solid feedback so it can be seamlessly blended with those other models.
Speaking of those extra models, all three Staff Model irons have closely matching specs with the loft of the Blades and CB matching exactly and the XB's having lofts 2-degrees stronger through the mid irons to generate a stronger ball flight.

Considering this is Wilson's first full crack at the hollow-body, players' distance category, they absolutely smashed them out of the park. Not to mention making a great set of cavity backs and blades, too.

The Staff XB's deliver on something I hear golfers ask for over and over: a compact iron that looks like a smaller cavity back from address but with technology packed inside. And, if you actually set them side-by-side with the CB, its pretty darn difficult to tell the difference.
This is why I can't stop thinking about the Staff XB irons, because in a crowded reatil market, especially in the players distance category, a lot of great products can get lost in the noise, even though the Wilson irons and banging a very loud drum.
