Tommy Fleetwood, You Have Our Attention at the Genesis Scottish Open

Tommy Fleetwood is just a few weeks removed from a devastating Sunday at the Travelers Championship. We can't wait to see how he responds in his first start back at the Genesis Scottish Open.

I included this line in in my preview for the Genesis Scottish Open earlier this week, but I think this is a great place to start: I haven’t been sick to my stomach for another person for a while, but Tommy Fleetwood broke that streak a few weeks back at the Travelers Championship.

He stood on the 16th tee with a two-shot lead, and walked off the 18th green one shot behind Keegan Bradley after two bogeys in his last three holes.

The definition of heartbreak, especially for a man who’s fought for more than a decade to finally earn a W in the States.

That’s why this week in Scotland feels like a massive moment for Tommy. An opportunity to rebound in the best way possible at a golf course where he’s played some of his best golf.

Before a tie for 34th last season, Fleetwood finished T-6 in 2023, T-4 in 2022, T-26 in ‘21, and lost in a playoff to Aaron Rai in 2020 at The Renaissance Club.

He’s done everything but win.

And he comes into this edition in peak form. It’s easy to remember his tough Sunday in Connecticut, but a tie for second is still a high-quality showing. Before that, he tied for 16th at the Memorial, for fourth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, for fourth at the Truist Championship, finished solo-seventh at the RBC Heritage, and grabbed a share of 21st at the Masters.

He’s not knocking on the door; he’s getting ready to use a battering ram.

And maybe just playing outside the U.S. will give him that extra bit of confidence he needs to finally get one across the finish line. Hell, it’s not like he hasn’t won at all. He’s got seven wins on the DP World Tour. He knows how to get it done on this side of the pond.

Plus, I think it’s pretty telling that Vegas as him listed as the fourth betting favorite behind Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Xander Schauffele. Those folks know this guy is close to knocking one off.

So, Tommy, let’s see you do the damn thing. Put the Travelers behind you and go get a W.
