What You Need To Know About the Callaway Apex Ti-Fusion & Ti-Fusion 250 Chrome Irons

Callaway is updating the Apex Ti-Fusion iron with a new finish and adding a more forgiving second option.

Last year, Callaway unleashed the Apex Ti Fusion irons, a supercar of a golf club packed with technology to offer both maximum forgiveness and feel.

For those unfamiliar with the design, here’s a little refresher.

The Apex Ti Fusion irons are a tech-packed multimaterial iron that features a fast titanium face brazed to a forged steel body. Inside the multi-material head, you’ll find Callaway's urethane microspheres that allow the iron to maintain its speed and flexibility while still offering a premium solid feel. It's a best of both worlds design.

“The Ti-Fusion was a concept iron, a signal of innovation, trying new technologies that deliver high performance,” said Zack Oakley, Callaway’s senior product manager. “It’s for performance enthusiasts who want all the bells and whistles.”

To sum it up, they’re fast, forgiving, and feel fantastic, and when they were initially released came in a very cool black DLC (Diamond-Like Coating).

Now, like other equipment manufacturers, Callaway is offering an updated version of the Apex Ti-Fusion but this time with a chrome plated finish. Yes, it's not earth-shattering, but in a way it's a supercar being offered in a never before available color, so if you weren’t all in on the darker finished irons before, this is your chance.

But there is likely one more reason for the updated finish option: durability. You see, when the original and still current Ti-Fusions came out with its dark DLC it was either love or hate straight out of the box. For those you tend to play in softer conditions on less abrasive soil (where I play) the irons wore like most darker finish irons, slowly and evenly to the point of little concern.

On the other hand, for golfers who play in sandy soils, wear marks happened a LOT fasters on high use areas like the sole and face. Sure it had no impact on performance, but lead to (from what I heard from at retail level) a pretty significant uptick in returns.

Personally, I used set and was never worried about the finish because I play in soft conditions, but I can certainly understand consumer concern. Either way, the iron and all the tech inside make it a huge performer and the chrome finish should prevent any further issues.

So About The Ti-Fusion 250s

The Ti-Fusion 250 irons feature all of the same technology benefits of the Ti-Fusion irons, but (similar to the X-Forged Max to the standard X-Forged), the new 250s offer a larger overall profile including blade length and thicker topline, plus added offset to deliver more forgiveness and a confidence inspiring look. A Supercar with extra seating (if we want to stick to car analogies).

The Ti-Fusion Plated irons are available 4-A, while the Ti-Fusion 250 irons are available 5-A. Both models are priced at $350 per club with pre-order now open and full retail release date scheduled for July 25th.
