The 1962 U.S. Open at Oakmont was an instant classic.
It featured Pennsylvania’s own Arnold Palmer, who was at the height of his powers and feeding off the hometown energy of the crowds, and a 22-year-old Jack Nicklaus, who fell to Palmer two years earlier at Cherry Hills as an amateur.

But this time around, Young Jack got the best of The King, beating him in an 18-hole playoff. Nicklaus posted an even-par 71, while Palmer signed for a 3-over 74. Truly one of the greatest golf tournaments of all time.
