I think it’s impossible to overstate the impact Mr. Arnold Palmer had on this game. His nickname was The King, I mean, how badass is that?
He was just a kid from western Pennsylvania, and more specifically, repped Pittsburgh and this community for his entire life.
In 1994, Palmer played in his final U.S. Open, and it just so happened to be at Oakmont Country Club, making him the overwhelming fan-favorite and local hero. It was the perfect place to take his final walk at the country’s championship.
GOLF.com’s Dylan Dethier put together an incredible video telling the story of Palmer’s final U.S. Open interview and how it was never supposed to happen until the legendary Chris Berman bent a few rules.
I’m not going to tell you anything else, just press play and enjoy.
