Picks to Win & Best Bets for the U.S. Open at Oakmont

To get you ready for the year's third major, here's our preview for the U.S. Open at Oakmont, including three picks to win.

Y’all ready for some carnage? Y’all ready for an over-par winner—a guy can dream, can’t he? Y’all ready for a week at one of the hardest golf courses in the world?

We are.

The U.S. Open is less than 48 hours away and we are jacked up—at least I am, I guess I can’t really talk for the rest of my Skratch squad, but this place is buzzing.

The best players in the world have made their way to Pittsburgh's Oakmont Country Club for the year’s third major championship, and there’s no shortage of storylines.

Will Scottie Scheffler move a step closer to the Career Grand Slam? Will Rory McIlroy get some revenge after gift-wrapping the title at Pinehurst No. 2 a year ago? Is Bryson DeChambeau gonna make a run at another one of these things?

We can’t wait to find out.

And after having Sam Burns at the RBC Canadian Open—Heartbreak City—the betting gods owe us one. Let’s get a winner.

Picks to Win the U.S. Open

Ludvig Aberg (25/1)

From the middle of March to the middle of May, Aberg struggled a bit this year. During a six-event stretch, he finished seventh at the Masters, but also missed three cuts and his other two finishes were T-54 and T-60. So, not great. However, his last two outings have been a whole lot better. He tied for 16th at Jack’s Place and for 13th last week north of the border. As for his history at the U.S. Open, he made his debut at Pinehurst No. 2 a year ago and tied for 12th.

Oakmont is a monster and these guys are going to have to live in the fairway if they want a chance to win. Aberg is one of the best drivers on the planet and was field average or better in driving accuracy in his last two starts. Let’s see if the Swede can earn his first major.

Collin Morikawa (25/1)

If fairways are going to be priority No. 1 in Pittsburgh, it’s hard not to back Morikawa. He hit over 80 percent at the Memorial and is ranked second in that department for the season. He tied for 20th at Muirfield Village in his last start and has played some great golf at the U.S. Open throughout his career. He tied for 14th at Pinehurst No. 2 (2024) and Los Angeles Country Club (2023), for fifth at The Country Club (2022), and for fourth at Torrey Pines (2021).

Length is a concern with the two-time major champion, but his ability to live in the short grass offsets any worry.

Tommy Fleetwood (40/1)

I can’t quit the Englishman. It’s at the point where if I’m not on him when he finally breaks through, it’s gonna hurt. But I like his chances this week.

Over his last five starts, Fleetwood has finished seventh at the RBC Heritage, T-4 at the Truist Championship and Charles Schwab Challenge, and T-16 at the Memorial. He’s also played some great golf at the U.S. Open over the last couples seasons, tying for 16th at Pinehurst and for fifth at LACC. If he can make some putts, watch out.
