If no one is going to say it, I will—I miss Tiger Woods, man. Having him at a golf tournament changes the entire environment and it’s a bummer he’s not in Pittsburgh this week.
However, thanks to a social post from Sun Day Red, we got an insight into what the 15-time major champion thinks about this week’s U.S. Open venue, Oakmont Country Club.
U.S. Open: How to Watch, Tee Times | Rank the Field | Picks to Win
"There is no faking about Oakmont," Woods said. "The golf course is big, yes, but it's just ... there is no way around it. You just have to hit the golf ball well, and it favors longer hitters, just because of the degrees, the complexes. It just helps so much to be coming with shorter iron, to be able to sock the ball. It's about missing the ball on correct spots because if you don't, it's horrible."
Tiger played in one U.S. Open at Oakmont in 2007 when he tied for second at 6-over, one shot behind winner Angel Cabrera.
There’s been no update on Tiger’s Achilles since he had surgery, so who knows when we’ll see him tee it up again—it can’t come soon enough.
