Friends, we are gathered here to today to mourn the loss of all my other sneakers.
We had a great run and for the most part they all treated me well (some better than others), but I'm pretty sure I've uncovered the final boss of all golf shoes marketed to be "versatile, and worn for every occasion".
These aren't like other golfing sneakers, think Jordans or Sambas, that were designed to be lifestyle sneaker or sneakers for other sports first, and then morphed into shoes for golf second. The Osprey from Sun Day Red is a golf shoe through and through. And yet, they look and function like a sneaker that you'd wear to the office, to dinner, or to the world's biggest golf tournament like I did.
Allow me to give you some context.
A couple months ago, the team at Sun Day Red kindly sent me the Osprey to try out. When I unboxed them I was pleasantly surprised to see a new silhouette from Tiger's brand.
Until the Osprey, most of the SDR footwear offerings followed a very classic look, channeling decades past with modish touches and upgraded performance technology. But this shoe, was a stark departure from what we have seen before from the brand—and that's always exciting.

By design the Osprey looks like a casual, almost unsuspecting sneaker that's reminiscent of Cole Haan's signature style. It's like office core-chic that's slightly less on-the-nose because some of the more performance driven finishes.
The drop-in EVA midsole system, which are just fancy words for the cushioning of the sole and midsole, was engineered for all-day comfort and responsive for any activity.
The thing about shoes that boast comfort as a top-billed feature is they typically have an obscenely thick midsole that just scream cushion louder than needed. And as much as I love a platform, chunky sneakers are so 2017, and I'm not trying to see a resurgence anytime soon.
The first time I wore the Sun Day Red Ospreys was, of course, to a golf course and I happened to do a ton of walking that day. Was it the smartest decision to wear brand new, unbroken in leather golf shoes to walk around in? Probably not. But I have zero regrets about my decision because my feet were comfortable and supported the entire time.
Despite meeting all my comfort and style needs, months would go by before these shoes saw daylight again, blame the dark corner of my closet that they somehow found themselves into. But finally, another opportunity arose, and these shoes saved me from what was truly a moment of despair.
I pride myself on throwing together chic, yet appropriate golf outfits. Whether if I'm playing or not, I will always try my best to look the part. But there are moments in life that I agonize over the perfect thing to wear when I'm simply just watching golf.
For the final day of the Ryder Cup, I got a special invite to join my friends at Rolex to be a patron and take in the atmosphere of our game's most coveted event. So naturally, I ripped my entire closet apart in search of what to wear. I wanted to be dressy, but not too over the top and definitely not too golf casual.
Pro tip: when in doubt ladies, always opted for a dress. But then you're inevitably left with the impossible task of deciding which footwear option is the best.

In this instance, it had been raining overnight so I knew I needed something waterproof or water-repellent and easy to clean in case of mud. I also wanted something simple enough, no unnecessary frills just a classic, clean all-white shoe. And most importantly, it had to be comfortable. Bethpage is no joke to walk.
That little light bulb went off in my head and I remembered my Sun Day Red Ospreys. The perfect shoe for this occasion because to the untrained eye, you'd think it's just another white sneaker—which is exactly what I was going for.
Safe to say—they were a hit. They expertly went with my dress and I had no issues with comfort or traction. No other sneaker in my artillery could have done what these did for me. I would have been in a world of hurt trying to clean up the dirt and grim or worse...slipped, because some parts of the course were still damp.
These shoes were my saving grace and moving to the No.1 seed in my wardrobe.
The only downside? These are technically only a men's golf shoe. Sizes for women are limited, with the smallest size available being an 8.5. Never have I been more grateful for my gargantuan size 10 foot (big feet girlie supremacy!).
So allow this to be my official plea to Tiger and the team at SDR...make these a women's golf shoe pretty, pretty please.
