A. PUTNAM's Signature Aesthetic Gets a Performance Upgrade

Why the brand known for its polished resort and clubhouse style is finally stepping into a more technical tone.

With its distinct scalloped hemlines, delicate piping details, and gold hardware finishes, A. PUTNAM has built a loyal following by creating golf apparel that feels equal parts polished, feminine, and rooted in timeless tradition.
The brand's aesthetic has always felt a little Jackie O. to me. It's a perfect concoction of country club chic and resort elegance, yet updated for the modern woman who might be squeezing in six holes (on the sim) before heading back to a full day of meetings in New York City. Founder Ali Putnam understands that balance better than most. As a mom of five boys, she built A. PUTNAM around the idea that women shouldn't have to choose between looking put together and keeping up with everything life demands.
But despite growing into one of the larger and more popularized women's golf brands around, A. PUTNAM has never really dabbled into the performance wear lane, because that's never really been their vibe—until now.
Debuting this month is their new Sport Edit capsule, marking the brand's first true step into performance wear. Bringing moisture-wicking fabrics, UPF protection and sport-ready functionality to the elevated aesthetic that made it popular in the first place. And the reason behind the expansion goes beyond simply making better golf clothes.
Three young women in preppy outfits stand by a rocky shore, looking towards each other.
"As A. PUTNAM has grown, we have seen women take the brand far beyond the pro shop. They have worn it in golf media, shared it with friends, traveled in it, and come back asking for the same pieces with more performance built in," Putnam shared with Skratch.
I can attest first hand that my most-loved pieces from A. PUTNAM I have truly lived my life in, both on the course and off, but primary off because the pieces just lend themself to my personal style in that way.
The limited capsule features just five new products, which isn't far off from A. PUTNAM's usual small-batch approach, and honestly? It's the right move. For its foray into performance, a smaller, more curated collection of essentials feels less like dipping a toe in and more like a smart first swing. The Sport Edit delivers the pieces women know they need on the course—polos, quarter-zips, outer layers—while leaving room for the category to evolve.
A natural next step should include a trouser, and expand on the outerwear which is such a huge point of contention for women in golf. (Why is everything always so boxy?!)
The bigger idea behind the Sport Edit goes beyond simply adding technical wear to the lineup just for the sake of doing so. For too long, women's performance apparel has existed in a strange middle ground—often functional, but rarely ever thoughtful. Too many pieces feel like they were adapted from men's designs, stripped of personality or built around the assumption that women are willing to sacrifice style for comfort. A. PUTNAM's answer is to challenge that idea, creating pieces that perform without losing the polished, feminine aesthetic its customers already love.
Sport Edit was developed for that customer and that momentum. It gives women and our shop partners a reliable in-stock program, with technical function for real movement and the elevated, feminine details that have always been at the heart of A. PUTNAM.
What Ali and her team have built so far doesn't call for a reinvention—it's actually quite the opposite. The move into performance feels like an organic evolution, bringing the same attention to detail, polish and femininity that made A. PUTNAM what is is, into a category where those qualities have often been missing. Five years into its climb, this feels like exactly the kind of next step the brand should be taking.
If this is the beginning of A. PUTNAM's performance era, consider us excited to see where and how it grows.

A.PUTNAM Sport Quarter Zip

It doesn't get any more "performance" than a classic quarter zip. The soft scalloped detailing on the cuffs adds that A. PUTNAM flair.

A.PUTNAM Wind Vest

This is the hero item of the collection for me. The brand has never really dabbled in a vest before. They've done some outwear with a couple of jacket offerings but a highly stylized wind vest is a nice little middle ground and opens up the conversation to layering.

A.PUTNAM Sport LS Polo

The long sleeve polo is an art. To the untrained eye, it can seem simple, but the proportions have to be figured out just right or else this can end up in the "boxy men's polo" category and nobody wants that. I think you're better off styling this piece like a traditional long sleeve option that elevated with buttons.

A.PUTNAM Sport Sleeveless Polo

On the flip side, there's a sleeveless polo option for those final few weeks of summer golf. (I am a sucker for most of the sleeveless offerings from A. PUTNAM so I'm excited to try this out.)

A. PUTNAM Sport SS Polo

When I this shorter sleeved polo I got instant call backs to Polo Ralph Lauren or Lacoste, because it feels like if there is a brand that can pull off a stylish yet technical polo it is this one. It's classic, it's refined, it's an incredibly important essential to master for a golf brand.
