The little black dress is one of the most powerful tools in any woman's style artillery. Credited to Coco Chanel who introduced the concept of a simple, elegant black dress during the 1920s—the LBD has been an essential component to contemporary fashion. The art of looking your best, while embodying effortlessness.
Now that my golfing uniform isn't tied down to school colors and a high school dress code, I've been in dire search of the dress that could cosplay as my LBD. Heck, it didn't even have to be black I just wanted something classic that made sense for golf and other activities. It couldn't be too long, but also not too short. It needed to go well with golf shoes and sandals if need be. But most importantly, I needed to feel confident and comfortable. The power of the LBD rests in its ability to immediately make you feel like a bad bitch—c.c. Lady Diana's revenge dress.
At the height of the drama surrounding her marriage, the people's Princess pulled out a show-stopping LBD moment that quite literally changed fashion forever. I seriously think about this outfit a least three times a week. Known as her "revenge dress", Princess Diana altered the general population's brain chemistry on what was deemed acceptable for a royal to wear. She pushed the boundaries, made a statement with color, and reminded us that she is the prize.
What I love most is that it sat in her closest for three years before she wore it...she was one of us.

The goal was to find something that could invoke the strong feelings I have when I look at that photo of Diana as I'm walking up to the first tee—strong and sexy (because sexiness is a mindset, people). Black dresses are a staple in my everyday wardrobe, so it only made sense to have my golf style mimic what I like to wear already.
Everyone is different, but I prefer golf dresses that are a little more form-fitting, that move with the body and don't have a lot of extra materials—ruffles and pleats are fun until you're trying to grip your club and then there's a bunch of fabric in the way.
I was deep in my hunt for the perfect dress. I tried everything, and what I found was that what makes or breaks a good athletic dress is usually the material used. They need to be soft to the touch and not super restricting. No one does buttery fabrication quite like Rhone does. The Course to Court Dress was the first piece I tried from the brand and that was enough to keep adding enough pieces to make a small flagship store.
The Course to Court collection is what launched Rhone's foray into women's golf apparel last May. The initial collection was comprised of a few staple pieces—a polo, a pullover, a skirt, and of course—a dress.
The first time I tried the dress on, there was a brief three-minute long stage of confusion due to the built-in shorts with a subtle back opening for your convenient bathroom needs. (No one has ever enjoyed being in their birthday suit while using a public restroom.) For context, the shorts like to flip inside out sometimes, but it's an easy fix once you get the hang of it. But once the dress was on—something in the universe shifted or an angel gained its wings—because I looked insanely hot.
The dress fit in all the right places. My waist was practically non-existent. The hemline hit the mid-thigh in a respectful yet flirty way. And let's just say...the built-in bra was the cherry on top. It felt too good to be true. Like how could an athletic dress also be one of the best looking dresses I've tried on ever?
Ironically, later that week I had agreed to a coffee and walking date with a guy I had been seeing. With my confidence through the roof, I didn't want to wait to wear the dress to play golf in, so I put it to the test during our walk. Ladies, you know you're doing something right when you're complimented immediately, especially by random people on the street. I felt like I was the main character in a movie—it was insane. Safe to say, Mr. Coffee was a fan of the dress...and we went for another walk. (Spoiler: I wore the dress again.)
So I decided to test my theory with another guy, we'll call him Golf Bae because he is a fellow sicko. After my success the first go round, I figured let's actually put this outfit to use and fulfill its purpose. And like clock-work, another instant hit. Golf Bae showered me in compliments which made up for the fact that he putts with his glove on. (Lexi Thompson is the only person on the planet who can get away with this, btw.)
I'll spare you the rundown on my dating history, but this dress was checking all the boxes. My confidence grew tenfold. It functioned exactly how I needed it to on the course, not riding up or causing chaffing. And it was perfect for running around in everyday life—from the grocery store to drinks with the girls to debrief these dates—this dress became my go-to.
This is that one item you splurge on but you don't care because it just works. It's the piece of clothing I gravitate towards almost daily (because yes I have it in every color possible), and it's so versatile.
Fashion is an investment, but it's also the thing that can instantly change your mood. We all deserve to look and feel good and feel desired. So heed my advice, find you that simple dress that changes it all for you, wear it unapologetically and preferably in every color they offer it in.
