I don’t want to get you too worked up on a Thursday, but here’s a reminder that Happy Gilmore 2—yes, a sequel to the greatest golf movie of all time—debuts on July 25. We’re just a few weeks away from the return of Happy, Shooter McGavin, Virginia Venit, and all the other characters we grew up with.
But this time around, there will be plenty of star power on the big screen, too. Some of the game’s biggest names are featured in the film, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Career Grand Slam winner Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, and Justin Thomas, among a ton of others.
Another face that will appear on your screen is Will Zalatoris.
When he first came out on TOUR, his looks were compared to those of Gilmore’s caddie from the first movie, so it’s only right that he tested out his acting chops in the sequel.
Willy Z, who’s been out since the end of May after undergoing yet another back surgery, joined Chad Mumm and Wells Adams of the Vanity Index podcast on this week’s episode and dished on the movie, growing a relationship with Adam Sandler, the best celebrity golfers, and a whole lot more.
But one of our favorite moments on the interview was when Willy Z mentioned that Sandler was the one person to get the biggest names on both the PGA TOUR and LIV Golf back in the same room.
Because, of course he was.

“I think the part that it’s actually really good, is the fact that we have guys from LIV, guys from PGA TOUR, and it’s the top of the top and it just takes away that level of BS. Happy is the one guy that could get us back in a room.
“If you were to just say, ‘I want to get you 12 guys and we’re going to go sit in a room,’ I guarantee it at least two of ‘em would be like, ‘No, I’m good.’ But, Adam’s one of the few guys on the planet that can get all of us hanging out together and make a fun movie.
“It’s not like there’s any animosity between us all, this is just the world of golf that we’ve been in for the last three years, and this is literally what it took.”
Where were you when Sandler saved golf?
This interview is full of great moments, and is absolutely worth your time today or over the holiday weekend.
