Halloween Horrors: Jordan Spieth’s Cliff Shot at Pebble Beach

It’s Halloween, so it feels like the perfect time to revisit the scariest golf shot we’ve ever seen.

Happy Halloween, folks. I hope your night is filled with Reese’s Cups, Candy Corn—yeah, I love it, sue me—and a couple undercover adult beverages while your kids are treat-or-treating.

But since it’s the scariest day of the year, I thought it’d be the perfect time to revisit the scariest golf shot I’ve ever seen on TV.

Jordan Spieth, Pebble Beach, 2022.

During the third round, the Texan’s ball came within inches of falling off the cliff of Pebble’s par-4 eighth and he was faced with a decision: hit the shot and risk death or take a drop. And, because he’s Jordan Spieth, it didn’t take long to figure out that there was no world where he wasn’t going to hit the shot.

Watching this live, I was legitimately nervous—at the same time, I couldn’t look away.

Spieth shot 63 that day—because of course he did—and ended the week in solo second, two shots behind Tom Hoge.

That kind of shot is why I’ll always love Spieth. Hopefully 2026 is the year he gets his swagger back.
