Why The ShopRite LPGA is Sneakily Important This Week

The LPGA heads to Atlantic City for one final tune-up before Riviera. Here are the players, storylines and pressure points to watch this week.

The last two weeks with the LPGA has felt a bit like the quiet before the storm. As the 81st U.S. Women's Open rapidly approaches, it's getting harder and harder to contain our excitement about the best in women's golf taking on Riviera for the very first time.

But before things kick off out west, the Tour has touched down in Atlantic City for the ShopRite LPGA after a brief, one week hiatus. It may be easy to over look this shorter week, as ShopRite is only a 54-hole event, but we're telling you to lock in, because we're in for quite an interesting week ahead.

With only one player from the Rolex top-10 in the field, World No. 7 Charley Hull, this feels like a week that's wide open for a player to make a last-minute hail marry and secure their spot into the USWO.

Of the 144-player field, less than 30 of these athletes are set to actually tee it up next week, and the only way to earn their way in is to win the ShopRite this week. The USGA has five remaining spots available for Riv at this stage, reserving one for the champion in Atlantic City...so who will it be?

Hull is the obvious headlining fan-favorite, but I think there's opportunity for a player in the middle of the pack, or even a rookie to make some moves this week and clinch a victory right before a long streak of events; as ShopRite is the beginning of a five-week stretch that includes two major championships in June: the U.S. Women's Open and the KPMG Women's PGA at Hazeltine.

Two players two keep your eyes peeled for this week are Epson Tour rookies Gianna Clemente and Brooke Biermann, who both received sponsor invitations from ShopRite.

Clemente made headlines last fall when she need special permission from Commissioner Craig Kessler to compete in the final stage of Q School due to being only 17 years old, not meeting the 18-year-old age requirement. The teen is now pro and playing full time on Epson.

Biermann most notably played in the 2026 August National Women's Amateur for the first time, maintaining her amateur status just to be able to do so. The Michigan State alumna actually qualified for the Q School Final Qualifying last year but withdrew due to a neck injury. But now she's back healthy and ready for her ShopRite debut.
