Three years ago, Viktor Hovland defeated Denny McCarthy in a playoff at the Memorial Tournament for his fourth PGA TOUR victory. It jump started his season, and he went on to win the TOUR Championship at East Lake later that summer. But he won’t be back at Muirfield Village this year.

Just two days after the Memorial confirmed the Norwegian’s commitment on Twitter, it announced the Norwegian wouldn’t be part of this year’s field.

In his last start, Hovland missed the cut at the PGA Championship. Overall, he’s made nine of 11 cuts this season, but has finished inside the top 10 just once, and that came at the WM Phoenix Open, his first start of the season.

While Jack’s Place will miss Hovland, the rest of the field is absolutely loaded.

Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, and Xander Schauffele are just a few of the names who plan on heading to Dublin, Ohio, early next week.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already looking forward to it.
