It Sure Feels Like Scottie Scheffler's Going to Win Again This Week, Doesn't It?

Scottie Scheffler hasn't finished worse than T-3 in his last three trips to the Charles Schwab Challenge. He's going to win again this weekend, isn't he?

It was always Scottie last week, wasn’t it? Fresh off an eight-shot win and in top form. I can’t believe I ever thought someone else was going to win the second major of the year. That’s on me.

And everything this week points to another win for the World No. 1.

He’s yet to get one across the finish line at Colonial Country Club, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t played well around this old-school gem. Since missing the cut in 2021, he’s lost in a playoff to Sam Burns, tied for third and one shot out of a playoff, and tied for second.

It’s pretty easy to see why Vegas has set his line at +240 to win. The next closest is Jordan Spieth (22/1), another Texan who’s loved this place over the years and even won here in 2016.

“It's good to be back here in Texas playing at home,” Scheffler told the media during his pre-tournament press conference on Wednesday. “This is a golf course that I really love and I always enjoy coming back to.”

A comfortable Scottie on a golf course he loves, clicking on all cylinders? Should we even play this tournament?

“Coming off a major win, obviously there's a lot of emotion and stuff that comes with winning that golf tournament, but at the end of the day I didn't just show up here to Fort Worth to just walk around and celebrate last week,” Scheffler said in the pre-round press conference.

“I'm here for a reason, and that's not to just play a couple of ceremonious rounds and then ride off in the sunset. I'm here for a reason. That's to compete.”

Someone should tell the rest of the field to get their white flags ready.

But seriously, I can’t remember the last time I saw a golfer with these short of odds to win. Tiger Woods-type stuff.

It was clear in Charlotte how big the gap between Scheffler and the rest of the world is. It doesn't help that Rory McIlroy was off his game in the Queen City, but that PGA title looked a little too easy for the 15-time TOUR winner.

With players like Rory, Xander Schauffele, and Justin Thomas missing from the tee sheet, Scheffler doesn’t have to worry about too much star power chasing him down this weekend.

I say we should call it and give ourselves a weekend off, but hey, maybe someone will do the impossible and dethrone the man at the top of the game.

But I don’t see that happening. So, congrats on another W, Scottie!
