Max Homa and Joe Greiner broke up prior to the Valero Texas Open and no one benefited from that more than Justin Thomas.
When his full-time caddie, Matt Minister hurt his back, Greiner flew down to Augusta, Georgia, to fill in for Thomas at the Masters. The pair tied for 36th at the year’s first major championship and worked together again last week at the RBC Heritage.
And for the first time since the 2022 PGA Championship, Thomas returned to the winner’s circle after an electric putt during a sudden-death playoff.
Despite his breakthrough with Greiner, Thomas told Skratch’s Dan Rapaport on this week’s episode of Dan On Golf that Minister will return to the bag once he’s fully healthy.
“I know Joe so well, like everyday we would figure out some things here and there," Thomas said. "He was great, man. He’s such a good dude. He works hard. We had a lot of fun out there."
In a few weeks, Thomas will return to the site of his 2017 PGA Championship win to try to capture his third career major championship.
Now that his winless streak is behind him, that task just became a whole lot easier.
Also on this week’s episode of DOG, Korn Ferry Tour winner and Netflix star Neal Shipley stops by for a chat, Corales Puntacana Championship winner Garrick Higgo calls in, Dan discusses playing Augusta National with New York Times' Gabby Herzig, and makes Ryder Cup picks with Golf Digest's Luke Kerr Dineen.
