Gaining consistency and having a go-to secondary option off the tee can have a major impact on your game, which is a huge reason why mini drivers have become such a popular option in the modern game. They offer the distance of a hard-to-hit strong lofted 3-wood, but with added forgiveness and consistency.

It's the forgiveness and consistency that make the Callaway Quantum Mini driver stand out.

Besides having Tri-Force face tech (more on this in a minute), the new Quantum mini also features Callaway's step sole design, which lowers the leading edge and reduces turf interaction. This design feature has been extremely successful across Callaway's fairway wood and hybrid lineup, making it one of the most forgiving minis on the market—even easier to hit off the deck.

How Tri-Force Face works

(Tri-Force Face Construction as seen in the Quantum driver)

Quantum Tri-Force faces are a combination of three materials: high-strength titanium, poly mesh, and carbon fiber. These materials, when assembled in that order (the face layer that you see is still titanium), create a reinforced face structure.

Another way to think about it is like plywood. Sure, a single solid piece of wood can be strong, but thanks to modern engineering, multilayered plywood, relative to solid wood is stronger and also more flexible, while also being thinner and lighter. And in many ways, that's how Tri-Force works.

When the face compresses at impact, the poly-mesh and the carbon fiber load under tension like a spring being stretched. Since Carbon fiber has extremely high tensile strength and anisotropic properties (ok, I'll admit I did some extra research to use these big words), meaning it has super-strong directional strength relative to the parallel direction of the fibers, it rebounds back into shape faster.

In this Bench Tested episode, we're taking a look at Callaway's new Quantum Mini Driver to find out how it stacks up off the tee and how the new sole design makes it easier than ever to hit off the deck.
