Why The Dollar Store Is One Of My Favorite Places For Golf Gear

Hear me out...your local dollar store could be an unsung hero when it comes to golf accessories and fixtures.

Like so many people, I love wandering around my local dollar store. Usually, I'm shopping for gummy bears or grabbing a Red Bull, but more and more often, I have found myself loading up on golf accessories for a lot less money than I would find at my local golf-specific retailer or pro shop.

Think of this as "Golf Hacking" the dollar store, just like how you how you can "Golf Hack" IKEA. Here's what I found in my basket during a resent dollar store golf shopping trip:

Brushes

Yes, I will admit that there are some pretty clever golf-specific brushes that offer truly useful features. But, if you're looking for a few extra brushes to kick around a sink and clean your grips, shoes, or clubs in a pinch, it's hard to go wrong with the offerings down the aisles of a dollar store.

Towels

Just like how I talked about in my IKEA hack piece, the dollar store is a great place to shop for towels. Sure, it's fun to have a special towel with a logo or graphic design (I have a bunch), but sometimes you just need a few rough cotton towels that lack sentimental value that you can stain, rip, and generally not worry about, and the dollar store is the perfect place for all kinds of options.

Sharpies

You can never have too many Sharpies, especially if you're a golfer who also builds your own clubs (more on that in a sec), and what better place to load up?

Caribiners

As golfers, we're always clipping and unclipping things to our golf bags: range finders, towels, brushes, bag tags, accessory bags, you name it, and the last thing you want to do is have to scramble to find a replacement for a broken one.

With so many sizes and varieties (at least at my local option), it's easy to stock up on a couple of extras.

Alignment Sticks

Kinda like towels, there are lots of fancy and pricey options when it comes to alignment sticks. But, if you're not in the market for some rare wood hand-painted alignment sticks built by an artisan (this is not a slight - seriously), then snag a couple of fiberglass ones for a few bucks a piece and you're all set!

Club Building Supplies

Let me preface this with the fact that if you're building clubs, you should always use the proper tools, safety gear, and the right equipment to reduce the likelihood of failure.

Ok, so now that we have that out of the way, let me fill you in on my little club-building secret. The dollar store is packed with all kinds of useful shop items.

Popsicle sticks - If you're mixing epoxy, these are a must!

Stray Bottles - If you like to install your own grips, you're gonna need a spray bottle.

Epoxy - I 1000% suggest that you NEVER use Dollar Store epoxy to build a driver, but (and it's a big one), if you even need to put together a putter or maybe a wedge in a pinch, most two-part epoxies can handle that task.
