I’m gonna cut right to the chase: I love IKEA.
I know it’s weird to say you love a Scandinavian furniture store, but considering I'm an appreciator of problem-solving through design, and I’ve used so many of their products throughout my life—including the dinner table I “hacked” into a very nice solid wood desk where I wrote this from—I feel it's not a completely crazy thing to say.
But what does a store that sells, desks, cribs, book shelves, picture frames, clocks, and flatware have to do golf? A lot more than you might think. So let me tell you about my favorite Ikea “golf” hacks and accessories.
Now I realize I’m probably a bit of an outlier when it comes to how many golf clubs I have in my possession. I’ve even been told many times that my example has been used to show significant others that their “small collections” are normal because I’m “crazy.”
Either way, with so many golf clubs I needed a way to store them that didn’t involve having 20 old staff bags kicking around my basement so with inspiration from a friend, I built a golf club storage rack with IKEA’s Hejne storage shelving.
The only modification I made from the intended design is that I utilized all of the predrilled holes to install as many shelves as I could to hold as many golf clubs as possible and viola - the best high-volume golf storage rack I’ve ever seen.
I even made a video about it
If you’re a collector of something a little smaller and more lightweight than golf clubs - say headcovers, well do I have a storage and displayer solution for you - the IKEA Skadis.
This lightweight pegboard comes in three colors and multiple sizes to help you design the ideal display for your favorite headcovers. It also comes with all kinds of other fixtures so you can store all your ball marks and other small accessories in one place.
If you’re like me and enjoy some music on the golf course once and a while, you don’t have to look very far to find a bunch of golf companies trying to sell you a Bluetooth speaker, but what makes a “golf speaker” anyways?
Before you answer that question, I’ll fully admit that there are some very cool (and much more expensive range finder speakers with extra built in technology) options - but if you’re just looking for a high quality and waterproof (rated for IP67) Bluetooth speaker for less than $20, you can’t go wrong with the Vappeby!
This little speaker comes in 3 colours, easily attaches to your golf bag and way outperforms its size when it comes to sound.
The waterproof (IP67) speaker can be used indoors and out, and when fully charged, gives you 80 hours of playing time at 50% volume.
$15
BUY NOWLast but not least, as golfers we always need a few extra little things to help keep our gear clean and tidy and if you’re looking for towels (so many colors!!) brushes, small baskets, or show racks… because I know you have more than one pair of golf shoes, then Ikea is also loaded with everything you could need.
I have multiple upon multiple of all of the above and it if wasn’t for Ikea, I’m not sure where else I would be able to get all of those things, at the quality that I want - plus meatballs, all in the same place.
Okay, one more for any of you golf club builders out there. The Ikea Ostbit plate holder also happens to make a great little display when you want to show off your latest build project too!
