With the first round of the 2025 PGA Championship now underway at Quail Hollow Golf & Country Club in Charlotte N.C., players bags are (for the most part) set and ready to go. So with that in mind, let's dive into some of the equipment changes and lack of changes that have gone into effect for the second men's major championship of the year.
Just like he did earlier in the year at Torrey Pines for the Genesis Invitational, Scottie has added a 7-wood to the bag. With Quail Hollow playing as a 7600 par 71 having this club in the bag makes a lot of sense to help increase the land angle approaching greens.
Speaking of high lofted fairway woods, Collin Morikawa took it one step further than Scottie and much like fellow TaylorMade staffer Tommy Fleetwood added a 9-wood to help with longer approaches and shots from the rough.

BUY NOWConsidering Rory's success at Quail Hollow and his victories this season, it should be no surprise that he hasn't made a single change to his setup this week. But, how about we use this as an opportunity to remind you that today at midnight (May 15) is the last day to get your Rors Protos irons presale in!
From a gear and also from a marketing perspective, the LA Golf driver continues to be a bit of a mystery. Although Bryson has been seen carrying a prototype around in his bag this week at Quail Hollow, he has yet to put it into place and is still using the Krank model he used to win the U.S. Open in 2024.
Now I realize marketing is marketing and other top players continue to use older model clubs with great success, but considering this driver was specifically designed by Bryson for Bryson, the fact that it hasn't made it into the bag seems odd.
This week, the chef is cooking with a hot plate... which is a mini version of a stove top, and what I mean by that is he's rocking the Callaway Elyte Mini driver (look, not every joke can be a banger, but this one's at least worth a sympathy chuckle). Considering his length off the tee and his club head speed, using this as a 3-wood replacement could come in very handy.

Xander's gear has remained unchanged most of the season, with the highlight being his (plumber's neck) Odyssey Red 7 CH Putter.
After starting the season with an older ZX5 LS, Hideki has moved into the new ZXi LS driver, and this week (like most weeks) he’s using another new Scotty Cameron Newport 2
When spotted earlier in the week, it doesn't look like much has changed since Blockie shocked the golf world at Oak Hill. He still has his 2014 TaylorMade CBs, M5 titanium fairway woods, and Stealth 2 driver. Speaking of those fairway woods - you can snag these titanium beauties for around $100 a head now, which is a crazy deal considering they were north of $400 when the first came out.
Since becoming a gear free agent, DJ has been pretty quiet on the clubs front beyond a few putter changes, but this week at the PGA Championship, he was spotted playing a practice round with a Titleist GT2 along with a TaylorMade Qi35. With his first round getting underway, we'll keep and eye to see what has staying power.
