Three Good Reasons to Try an Adjustable, High-Lofted Fairway Wood

Higher-lofted fairway woods have never been more popular—here's why these adjustable 7-woods could be a big help to your game.

It’s no longer a secret that 7-woods have officially made a comeback. Although their popularity was once relegated to slower swing speed golfers who struggled with longer clubs, they have once again become a staple on the PGA TOUR and for golfers of ranging swing speeds thanks to their ability to hit the ball high and land it softly.

Top Reasons 7-Woods are so Useful

  • Their longer length (compared to irons or hybrids) allows golfers to generate more club head speed to create extra ball speed and spin for longer carrying shots.
  • That extra speed along with a more rounded face profile (compared to irons or hybrids) helps extricate shots out of the rough and bad lies.

  • Last but not least, their higher MOI naturally makes them more forgiving and easier to hit, and who doesn’t want that when facing a long approach shot.

Why Adjustability is so Important

But one drawback for a long time - especially at the consumer level is that 7-woods have lacked the hosel adjustability of their lower lofted 3 and 5-wood siblings, but in 2025 more equipment companies than ever have embraced higher lofted adjustable fairway woods with some even offering adjustable 9-woods too.

This means you can adjust loft and lie angle - which gets more important when a club has more loft on it, to make sure start line and curve is properly dialed in for each player. This is especially critical for moderate-swing speed golfers who use these clubs more often to approach greens from shorter distances.

So if you’re a gofer in the market here’s a list of companies and the models they offer with an adjustable 7-wood, with notes made for any that also offer a 9-wood as well.
