Uniqlo's Perfect, $50 Pleated Pants Just Got a Fall Golf Upgrade
My go-to, everyday pants are, all of a sudden, available in a classic fall fabric. Run, don't walk.
Last fall, I found a pair of pants to rival every single pair hanging in my closet.
When Uniqlo dropped its pleated wide pant, it felt like the culmination of a years-long search for the perfect pair of pleated pants to wear to work, to dinner, on a coffee run, to the movies, and most importantly, on the golf course.
It had belt loops, it had elastic in the waistband, the pleats were subtle yet present, and the fabric was just heavyweight enough without being overbearing. It made them not just an all-seasons pant, but an all-scenarios pant.
Today, as I was poking around the internet looking at clothes, I noticed Uniqlo had quietly released two new styles of their Wide Pleated Pant. And folks, they're playing with Herringbone here.

Pleated Wide Pants | Herringbone
I wear these pants as often as I can. Bring on the fall temperatures, I'm ready.
$49.90
BUY NOWAnd what perfect timing as most of the country begins their fall golf prep. Living in Los Angeles, I essentially have no business buying pants made of anything but linen or cotton. But I do not care. I was born in Pennsylvania and cut my teeth in New York City. You can pry herringbone, tweed, and all of their cousins from my cold (warm) dead hands.
It's a conundrum only a style sicko like myself could find themselves in. Does fall-weather dressing make sense when there's no fall weather where you live? If you're asking me, I say absolutely. For every civilian that asks you "Aren't you warm?" there's a ball knower out there to tip their cap to you, good sir, for flexing the 'bone on a 70-degree November day. (Just wear a tee up top, you're fine.)
At $49.90, it's worth the sweat. Over the past year, I've found myself digging through piles of clean laundry to find my Uniqlo pleated wides (I have them in blue and grey). And now, I have another pair that can travel with me.
On the itinerary next is Atlanta, where I actually will betray my own aforementioned take, because 90 degrees is not 70. Soon after I'm headed to Pinehurst, where it's sure to be sweltering. But after that? I've got a couple of days in October in New Jersey that are screaming for these pants.
I suggest you run, don't walk, and get your cart loaded with at least one pair of these. I'll see you out there wiping your brow, struggling in the heat, but looking good doing it. I will tip my cap.
