The $60 Pleated Golf Pants You're Definitely Sleeping On

I have something to admit. As obsessed as I am with clothes, and despite all the advice I've offered, verbal, written, you name it. I have a weak spot. And it's the most important spot. It's pants.

For years I have longed for the perfect pair of pants, but it's the part of my wardrobe I'm never satisfied with. I've made some progress. Brooks Brothers makes a corduroy pant I'll now wear for life. When I want to get extreme, a pair of big, baggy Carhaart parachute pants have become a go-to. Jeans are easy. But as someone obsessed with clothes and with golf, I'm constantly looking for pants that achieve my high marks for wearing in my civilian life as well as my golfing life.

And then last week something amazing happened. I walked into the A.P.C. store near my house and found a pair of pants that stopped me in my tracks. They weren't too lightweight. They didn't hold a wrinkle. They were wool-based but not heavy. They draped perfectly. They cost five hundred dollars.

I couldn't do it. And I was angry. I needed to find their dupe. And I found them at Uniqlo.

They're called their Pleated Wide Pant and that's exactly what you get. A healthy combination of poly, cotton, rayon and spandex make for what look and feel like a pair of pleated wool trousers, but slide on and move around like my favorite pair of baggy sweats.

They feature a wide leg opening for that vintage look, but up top, you've got every which way to fasten them. Want to wear them belted? There are loops and a button/zipper enclosure just like your favorite trousers. Need a little tightening? A hidden drawstring is there for you. The waistband also has an elastic feature on both hips for extra movement.

On my first day with these pants, I wore them to work with sneakers and a crewneck. When I go play golf this weekend, I'll wear them with a required collar and a tour visor for a look that's very Right Now but also Back Then.

I can't express enough how flowy and comfortable these pants are. Yet, they hold their own and look formal enough to dress up. I could sleep in these pants. I could also attend a funeral. I could also play 9 holes or hell, a game of pick up in them.

At long last, I found the pants I've been after. I had to share this with you all.
