Each week, we’re going to feature one of our favorite golf style pieces that is made from natural materials. Cotton, wool, cashmere, silk — these are our heroes. This time we’re taking a closer look at the Icebreaker Merino 150 Tech Lite Polo.
A couple of weeks ago I dove into the merits of merino wool and how J.Lindeberg was using the soft, temperature-regulating fabric to crossover into the outdoor world. This time, I want to talk about an outdoor brand venturing into the golf world, albeit inadvertently.
The Icebreaker Merino 150 Tech Lite Polo is, as you may have guessed, made from 100 percent merino jersey, one of my absolute favorite fabrics in the world. Icebreaker isn’t a golf brand and they probably didn’t plan on this polo being an ideal choice for warm-weather rounds, but they absolutely piped one down the fairway with this one.
If I’m being honest, there’s not much to wax poetic about here, but that’s exactly why I love this polo: it’s simply the quintessential polo shirt.
Three well-spaced natural Corozo buttons and a ribbed collar keep things comfy and classy up top, offset shoulder seams prevent chafing and other pesky friction, and the classic fit looks great on anyone.
But the real winner here is the merino. The wool is ultra soft and won’t itch, even from the very first time you wear it, which is not something you can say about all wool. It’s also supremely lightweight — a medium only weighs 5.97 ounces. Pair this with the fiber’s natural moisture-wicking, temperature-regulation, and odor control and you’ve got the perfect wool polo for long summer days (and the nights that come after).
And, if you’re really feeling it, you can always wear it on all of your outdoor adventures, too.
