Sepp Straka became the second player this season to win multiple times on Sunday when he claimed the Truist Championship title at Philly Cricket Club. The only other guy with more wins than him: Rory McIlroy (AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, THE PLAYERS, Masters).
In my mind, Straka has already cemented himself as part of the European Ryder Cup team that will try to win on foreign soil for the first time since 2012 at Bethpage Black. A few years ago in Rome, Straka earned one point for Team Europe with a 1-2-0 record.
After his signature event win, he had a chat with Skratch’s Dan Rapaport that aired on this week’s edition of Dan On Golf, and on top of chatting about his W, he told Dan about a very special birthday present from his regular caddie, Duane “Dewey” Bock.
“Dewey gave me—my birthday present is playing Pine Valley tomorrow (Monday), so I’ll be staying around playing Pine Valley tomorrow and then flying out tomorrow afternoon (to the PGA Championship),” he said.
Let’s just say I’ve heard of worse birthday gifts. Man, it definitely pays to be one of the best players in the world.
Dewey wasn’t on Straka’s bag in Philly as he hurt his back the week prior. But I’d say his fill-in did a pretty decent job.
Also on this week’s show, Shane Lowry stops by for a chat, Scott Faucet goes over strategy for Quail Hollow, Rick Gehman makes some picks for the second major championship of the year, and show regular Alan Shipnuk makes another appearance.
You can listen to Dan On Golf wherever you get your podcasts or on the DOG YouTube channel.
