We’re six weeks away from the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black, and both teams are starting to take shape.
United States Captain Keegan Bradley will officially welcome the first six members of his team after this week’s BMW Championship, while Luke Donald, who’s captaining his second straight Cup, will have to wait until after the DP World Tour’s Betfred British Masters (August 24th).
However, there are three players on each side of the aisle who have already mathematically qualified for the biennial event in New York: Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, and Xander Schauffele for Team USA; Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, and Tommy Fleetwood for Team Europe.
Spaun, who fell to Rose in a playoff on Sunday at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, will not only make his Ryder Cup debut in September, but it will be the first time he’s ever donned red, white, and blue for a team event. The other five players listed above have been there and done that.
Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau, and Harris English currently hold the other three automatic spots on the American side, while Robert MacIntyre, Tyrrell Hatton, and Sepp Straka are Nos. 4-6 for the Euros.
