The PXG Torpedo is the newest addition to the PXG line of Battle Ready putters, which, in contrast to other recent releases from the company, is geared towards golfers looking for a more traditional toe hang configuration rather than a zero-torque design, which PXG also offers.
“While zero-torque putters have recently gained attention for their unique approach to stability, many golfers still prefer the feel, look, and performance of more traditional putter styles, PXG Chief Product Officer Brad Schweigert said. "The Battle Ready II Torpedo answers that call.”
The standout word there is traditional, because other than the fact that the putter has a head, a shaft, and a grip, the design and technology featured inside the putter is anything but. On the flip-side of my weak argument, squared-off wing-shaped mallets with perimeter weighting have become the norm, and PXG has had similar models to the torpedo in the past, like the Blackjack (Below), which is much more geometrical.
S COR - Borrowing from PXG iron tech, this lightweight polymer is injected into the core of the thin-walled putter head to both support the structure and generate a pleasing solid feel at impact. Additionally, the S-COR allows the face of the putter to be made extremely thin at just .055″; this helps to save mass so it can be positioned around the perimeter of the design to increase stability.
Third-Gen Pyramid Face - This milled pattern on the putter face helps to generate less backspin, leading to improved forward roll and a softer feel without an insert.
Precision Weighting - The adjustable weights allow for final club head customization based on player feel, putter length, and configuration - including armlock.
Customizable Hosel - Like many other PXG putters, the Torpedo offers multiple hosel neck styles to suit a players alignment style and stroke. That includes a traditional plumber’s neck, short heel slant neck, double-bend, and even armlock.
“Every golfer has a unique stroke. With the new Battle Ready II Torpedo, we’ve created a highly adaptable clubhead for an exceptional fit. With its familiar mallet profile, versatile hosel options, and fine-tuned weighting, it delivers the forgiveness and consistency today’s players seek, while preserving the classic feedback and aesthetics golfers have trusted for decades.”
- Bob Parsons, PXG Founder & CEO.
