Bryson DeChambeau is “Not Eligible” for the Procore Championship…*Pretends to be Shocked*

Keegan Bradley on Bryson DeChambeau's eligibility for the Procore Championship: “I thought that the Ryder Cup sort of transcends all of this. And really, the last thing on my mind is the PGA TOUR-LIV stuff.”

I feel like I’m going insane.

Social media lit up Thursday afternoon when SI Golf reported that Bryson DeChambeau “is not eligible for PGA TOUR competition” and will not be allowed to prepare for the Ryder Cup alongside his teammates at the Procore Championship in Napa, California, two weeks before the biennial event.

I think the problem here is that the guy left the TOUR for the Saudi-backed LIV Golf league and is now suspended from playing on the biggest stage in the sport. Unless I missed something, that’s very much still the case.

What are people talking about here?

Just because the Ryder Cup is around the corner, the TOUR should go against everything it’s done over the last four years and let a LIV Golf member play in one of its events, taking a spot away from someone who’s worked his ass off to get it? Am I missing something here?

And while Keegan Bradley, the captain of Team USA, admitted DeChambeau is suspended and “that’s out of my control,” he also said, “I thought that the Ryder Cup sort of transcends all of this. And really, the last thing on my mind is the PGA TOUR-LIV stuff.”

SI’s Bob Harig reached out to DeChambeau’s agent, Brett Falkoff, and got a text reading: “We have not formally inquired. Bryson plans to participate in every team gathering that he is permitted to attend.”

The Big Golfer is currently fifth in the U.S. point standings, so if the automatic qualifiers became official today, he’d be one of the six. But even if he slips from that position, he’s going to be at Bethpage.

Regardless, it’s insane to me that people think he was going to be able to play in wine country.

Now, as someone who will be rooting for Team USA, would I like to see him tee it up in Napa alongside Scottie Scheffler and those boys? Yeah, I don’t think I’d mind it. I want that Cup back on home soil. But to think the TOUR was ever going to let that happen is asinine.
