There was a lot of talk last week about Quail Hollow and its capability to host a major championship. It’s perfectly fine for a standard PGA TOUR stop—it’s the annual home of the Truist Championship—but for one of the year’s top four events? There were questions.
In the end, it tested the world’s best players. The leaderboard featured some of the game’s biggest names, and the winning score was just 11 under. So the result was good, but there still wasn’t much excitement about the golf course. It also doesn’t help that this year we’ve already gotten Augusta National and head to Oakmont and Royal Portrush for the final half of major season. In that foursome, Quail Hollow sticks out like a sore thumb.
The PGA Championship, in general, hasn’t had a star-studded lineup over the last several seasons like the U.S. Open and Open. Its venues always felt a little second tier.
So, on this week’s Dan On Golf, Dan Rapaport was asked to blind rank recent homes of the PGA Championship.
I don’t think you’ll be surprised with where Quail Hollow ended up on the list.
Also on this week’s show, Dan recaps Scottie Scheffler’s dominant PGA Championship victory and shares his 18 parting thoughts from Quail Hollow, gives his picks for the best and worst looks of the week, and previews this week's Charles Schwab Championship.
You can listen to the show wherever you get your podcasts or on the Dan On Golf YouTube channel.
