All-time greatness is measured in major championships. Plain and simple. There’s a reason why there are only two names in the GOAT conversation when it comes to golf.
So, winning one of these things is a big deal, and that’s why the winner receives so much.
Here’s a look at everything the winner will get Sunday night at the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow.
Wanamaker Trophy: This trophy is huge, and for some reason, the top of it loves to come off. That led to one of my favorite golf pictures ever. Here’s Collin Morikawa after winning the 2020 PGA at Harding Park.
Lifetime exemption: Like the Masters, past winners of the PGA Championship can play in the tournament for the rest of their lives.
Major championship exemption: The winner gets a five-year pass into all major championships for winning the PGA.
FedEx Cup: The winner gets 750 FedEx Cup points.
Money: The purse for all major championships is huge. Last year, Xander Schauffele earned $3.33 million. This year’s purse has yet to be announced, but it’s safe to say it’ll be bigger than last year’s.
PGA TOUR Membership: The winner receives a five-year membership on the TOUR, plus a seven-year membership to the DP World Tour.
