How Running Late for a Flight May Have Cost this Former LIV Member a Spot in the U.S. Open

On Monday, the first two U.S. Open Final Qualifying events were held and several notable names earned a trip to Shinnecock, including Tom Kim and 2010 champion Graeme McDowell. But something odd unfolded in Dallas, Texas.

Six players were forced to extra holes to determine who would receive the final invitation, along with the two alternate spots. After making a birdie on the first playoff hole, Caleb Surratt solidified his spot in the year’s third major championship. The other five players, who all made par, moved on to the next to determine the alternates. But according to Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1), former LIV Golf member Eugenio Chacarra picked up and left.

MQI wasn’t sure what happened, but Chacarra responded to the tweet saying, "I left because my goal it’s to get my PGA TOUR card through the DP Tour and for me to prepare Belgium the right way was to get that flight."

Chacarra is playing in the Soudal Open on the DP World Tour this week and had to choose to battle for an alternate spot or avoid a travel disaster. He went with the latter. Chandler Phillips and Henrik Norlander eventually locked up the two alternate spots.
