The Sentry Will Not Be Played at Kapalua’s Plantation Course in 2026

The Sentry will not be played at its normal home in 2026, the PGA TOUR announced on Tuesday.

Kapalua’s Plantation Course, the annual host of the signature event, has been closed since September 2 due to lack of water. More than 140,000 residents have been impacted, and conservation mandates were put in place to prioritize the local community.

“Every day the golf course is dying,” Alex Nakajima, the general manager of Kapalua Golf and Tennis, told The AP last month.

After a site visit in early September by the TOUR's agronomy team, it was decided the course would not be ready to host the tournament by early January, even if weather conditions improved in the next few months.

“Following discussions with the Governor’s office, as well as leadership from Sentry Insurance, Kapalua Resort and Maui County, the PGA TOUR has determined the 2026 playing of The Sentry will not be contested at The Plantation Course at Kapalua due to ongoing drought conditions, water conservation requirements, agronomic conditions and logistical challenges,” the TOUR said in a statement. “Additional event information will be shared when appropriate."

The Sony Open on Oahu, the event held the week after The Sentry, will be played as scheduled.

"We support the PGA TOUR’s decision, given the drought conditions Maui is facing," said Hawaii Governor Josh Green. "Protecting our water and supporting our communities come first. The Sentry has long showcased Maui’s beauty while giving back to local nonprofits, and we’re grateful to the TOUR, Sentry Insurance, Kapalua Resort and Maui County for their partnership.

"We are excited to host the Sony Open in Hawai‘i, bringing international attention and support to Hawai‘i’s communities."
