It’s tough not to love Max Homa. He’s just the best. The game hasn’t treated him very well over the last year-and-a-half, but he just keeps going. He’s put his head down and grinded. And the results are starting to show it.
He tied for 12th at the Masters and was in the conversation at the PGA Championship before a tough weekend. It’s still not great, and not nearly as good as what he was doing when he was a top-10 player in the world, but his work ethic has to be praised.
And Monday is just another example.
Max is participating in the Longest Day in Golf, which, for those who are unfamiliar, is the Final Qualifying stage for the U.S. Open. There are 10 courses around the country hosting 36-hole competitions, and each one has a certain number of spots up for grabs in the year’s third major championship.
Homa, after playing in the Memorial Tournament, stayed in Ohio and is playing at Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club. Some of the other familiar names at that site include Rickie Fowler, Jake Knapp, Cameron Young, Erik van Rooyen, Eric Cole, Chez Reavie, Alex Noren, Lanto Griffin, Justin Lower, Adam Hadwin, Matt Kuchar, Padraig Harrington, Bud Cauley, and Patrick Rodgers.
At Kinsale, the top six at the end of the day will earn a tee time at Oakmont Country Club in just over a week.
So not only is Max fighting for a spot, he’s doing it while carrying his own bag.
One. Of. Us.
Max hasn’t missed a major championship since 2019.
I don’t think I’ve ever rooted harder for someone to make it through. Let’s go, Max!
