Less than a month ago, Brooks Koepka left LIV Golf. Last Friday, he applied for reinstatement to the PGA TOUR. And on Monday, he regained his status as a TOUR member. The five-time major champion is BACK.

The folks in Ponte Vedra have announced the Returning Member Program, a pathway for players who have won at the highest level to return to the TOUR—but it comes at a price.

Players who choose the RMP will be ineligible to earn equity from the Player Equity Program for five years and will not receive any money from the FedExCup Bonus Program in 2026. The TOUR estimates Koepka’s financial penalty will fall between $51 and $85 million in potential earnings, which, according to a statement from the TOUR, is "one of the largest financial repercussions in professional sports history He’ll also make a $5 million charitable donation at the TOUR’s request."

“When I was a child, I always dreamed about competing on the PGA TOUR, and I am just as excited today to announce that I am returning to the PGA TOUR,” Koepka said in a release. “Being closer to home and spending more time with my family makes this opportunity especially meaningful to me."

“I believe in where the PGA TOUR is headed with new leadership, new investors, and an equity program that gives players a meaningful ownership stake. I also understand there are financial penalties associated with this decision, and I accept those.

“Finally, I want to thank the fans. Your support means more to me today than ever before.”

Now, what if other players want to follow in Koepka’s footsteps?

The Returning Members Program is only an option for players who have been away from the TOUR for at least two years and have won either a major championship or PLAYERS title from 2022-2025. The other players who fit that criteria are Bryson DeChambeau (2024 U.S. Open), Jon Rahm (2023 Masters Tournament) and Cameron Smith (2022 Open Championship, 2022 PLAYERS Championship). For those three players, they have until February 2 to utilize the RMP and play on TOUR in 2026.

As for Koepka, he’ll make his return at the Farmers Insurance Open from Jan. 29-Feb. 1. He’ll also head to Phoenix a week later for the WM Phoenix Open, a tournament he’s won twice (2021, 2015).
