I watched this all unfold in real-time, and I’m still not sure how Rory McIlroy made bogey on the par-5 fourth at Oakmont during the first round of the U.S. Open.
McIlroy's drive went way right into a hazard, and it actually took the volunteers and spotters a few minutes to find his ball. He decided to hack it out but only advanced it 60 feet. From the grass lip of a fairway bunker, Rory’s third only went 30 feet.

He was looking at a big, big number.
The Northern Irishman was able to get his fourth back into the fairway and had nearly 180 yards left for his fifth. Not exactly what you want on one of Oakmont’s two par-5s.
From there, Rory found the middle of the green, leaving himself 30 feet for bogey. You can probably guess what he did from there. This is must-watch stuff.
