Mr. Charlie Woods is starting to make some noise on the amateur circuit—it was only a matter of time given who his father is, let’s be honest.
Charlie took the last qualifying spot after winning a 3-for-1 playoff at Eagle Trace GC in Coral Springs, Florida, on Thursday. Eagle Trace hosted the then-Honda Classic back in the day—1984-1991, and again in 1996—and was a stern test for the younglings in the field.
Tiger’s kid shot a 1-under 71 to get into the playoff that included four birdies and three bogeys.
If you forget—or if you never knew in the first place—Charlie won the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Black in May for his first win on the AJGA circuit.
And for those who are curious, The Cat was indeed boots on the ground to watch his son advance through the qualifier.
The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship will be held at Trinity Forest in Dallas, Texas, from July 21-26. This will be Charlie's second appearance in the event.
