Jimmy Fallon Tells the Tale of Throwing Travis Kelce’s Putter in a Lake

The 8AM Invitational is one of those celebrity golf tournaments you can't miss and the content is always undeniably entertaining. It’s hosted by golf sicko Justin Timberlake at the Wynn in Las Vegas, and he hand picks the incredible field.

Travis and Jason Kelce, Michael Strahan, Jimmy Fallon, Michaelle Wie West, and Michael Phelps are just some of the names who have played in the event since its debut in 2022. But there was one viral moment that stands alone, and it came in the first-ever playing.

After a tough putting day, Travis Kelce handed over his putter to Fallon and he chucked it into a lake.

On this week’s episode of New Heights, a podcast hosted by the Kelce brothers, Fallon joined the show and told his side of the story—this is the good stuff.

“I looked at you and said, ‘Give it to me.’ I thought you were gonna give me the ball,” Fallon said. “And I was gonna take his ball, and throw his ball in the lake…So he just gives me his putter…My brain had to make a quick decision…So I just roll with it and I whipped the putter into the lake.”

“The shackles were off me at that point, though, I was like, ‘I’m free,’” Travis said.

Travis credits Patrick Mahomes, his partner, for making all their putts that day, and the Kansas City Chiefs duo went on to win the whole thing that year.

It sounds like I gotta make my way to the Wynn in 2026—but perhaps I'll leave my putter safely at home.
