PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – This week, the PGA Tour is at Pete Dye's masterpiece, TPC Sawgrass, for THE PLAYERS, and with a full field gearing up for one of golf's biggest events, we were on the ground Tuesday to find out what tweaks were being made as players prepared for the event.
As we spotted on Monday, Wyndham Clark, who's had a tough season on the greens so far, put into play a Bettinardi Antidote SB1. This zero-torque blade is a departure from what he has used in the past, including, most recently, a LAB DF3, and before that, an Odyssey.
With THE PLAYERS being Justin Thomas' second event of the season so far, we had to ask him about the older Titleist TS3 3-wood that found its way back into his bag last week at the Arnold Palmer (as originally spotted by GolfWRX: Justin Thomas WITB).
Justin offered up a fun story about his time away from the course, which included cleaning out his garage, where he found the head and decided to put it back in his bag.
Speaking of JT and his fairway woods...
Even though he has already won this season at the AMEX, Scottie has been answering questions about his form heading into this week at TPC Sawgrass and has talked about it at his press conference on Tuesday.
He also offered some valuable insights into his driver testing:
"So I think when you look at the driver, I think there are always little things you can do to improve, but you got to toe the line, I think, between improving and sticking with the stuff that also works really well. So there's always that kind of fine line in golf (....)
Like with the new driver, I've seen my spin numbers come down, or sorry, become more consistent, which is really nice. It's a little bit faster too. So it's like, okay, if my spins can stay a little closer together and the ball can go a little bit further, in theory, it should be more accurate. But I'm a guy that shapes the ball and does a lot of different things, and so sometimes those little differences can be a bit of an adjustment for me, and so a lot of that I'm still kind of working through, if that makes sense."
When followed up with what that meant about a driver switch, Scottie replied, "That was a really long-winded way of saying no comment. I don't know if you could pick up on that." This led to some playful laughter from the media at his press conference.
