Traveling can too often be a not-so-luxurious experience, but add in a set of golf clubs, and your journey can get 10 times tougher. I’ve been lucky enough to play golf around the world, but as a former college golfer, I know all too well the troubles that come when you’re traveling with your sticks.
Missing luggage is every golfer’s nightmare, but it’s an equally frightening scene when your travel bag arrives at baggage claim looking like it had a first-class seat on the wing and you’re holding your breath to see if your driver has been snapped in two. That’s exactly what happened to me on a recent trip back to New York City.
Ripped up, burned fabric, a busted zipper that left my bag wide open, and a missing shoe.
Exhibit A:
Apparently this was the universe’s way of letting me know it was time for an upgrade.
This just so happened to be the exact same time Club Glove was making its highly anticipated return after being acquired by Acushnet. I used a Club Glove all through college and let me tell you–that thing went through the wringer. Multiple-connection trips, being thrown in the back of vans and busses, dragged around hotels and locker rooms. I always trusted my clubs would be safe and protected. And I had just gotten all new Titleist clubs, so it felt fitting that I stay in the family.
My new Club Glove Pro arrived, and I couldn’t believe how much of an improvement it was from my old travel bag. The polyester exterior is thicker and more durable than any travel bag I’ve used, plus it’s water resistant, so no worrying if your clubs are sitting on the tarmac in the rain. The interior has a 360-degree plush velour layer around the top to ensure clubheads are protected and a puncture resistant lining to keep the rest of your bag safe and secure. And every Club Glove travel bag comes with a StiffArm to make sure there are no broken clubs when you arrive at your destination.
As a carry-on girlie, I hate to check a bag unless it’s my golf clubs. The Pro model has extra width and two interior pockets, so there’s no shortage of space. The extra room means I can easily pack a few more pairs of shoes and additional layers to make sure I’ve got everything I need for my trip. My first time using it, I even had five pounds to spare.
One of the biggest differences that sets the Pro model apart from other travel bags I’ve used is its elevated details, including TPR-plated zippers, faux leather handles, and a TSA combination lock. And shock-absorbing wheels have made rolling through the airport (and inevitably rental car lots, shuttle buses, and hotel lobbies) the smoothest part of my travel journey. Club Glove also offers multiple colorways, and every bag can be embroidered with your name or initials, so you won’t get stuck sifting through dozens of identical twins at baggage claim.
Every detail of this bag was well-thought out and designed to make traveling as easy and comforting for golfers as possible. Your golf clubs are a big investment, and the travel bag you use to safely get them to your next destination should be no different. While it’s a slightly higher price point, isn’t that worth the comfort of knowing you’ll be able to get your trip off to a great start when you step up to the tee, driver in one piece, and rip one down the middle? I’ll never go back to another brand with travel bags, and with this durability, I probably won’t have to.
