25 Years in the Making: The New 2025 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x

Titleist introduces 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls - engineered to deliver more speed off the tee, more control, and greater spin with wedges.

Building on 25 years of innovation, engineering, and feedback from the best players in the world, Titleist introduces 2025 Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls - engineered to deliver more speed off the tee, more control, and greater spin with wedges.

What is at the core of Titleist’s new Pro V1 golf balls?

Since we're talking golf balls, the core truly is where so much of the innovation happens, especially when talking about how engineers generate more speed. By creating a higher gradient core (we’ll break this down in just a moment), the golf ball delivers speed without sacrificing spin or control. Plus by offering both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, engineers can further separate performance characteristics to help golfers find the right ball for them.

“We’re always trying to improve the golf ball in some way, and it’s all driven by golfer feedback. We start by talking with the best players in the world, who help us define what better is for both Pro V1 and Pro V1x," Mike Madson, Vice President, Titleist Golf Ball R&D said. "The goal is to help golfers score better, and to do that, we’re going to use every tool we have in the toolbox.”

Core design features

Higher gradient core

Sorry for using the word “core” so much but it really is an important part of the golf ball and the higher gradient cores inside the Pro V1 and Pro V1x are a key element of performance. This higher gradient is achieved through the manufacturing process and means that from the center of the core to the outer layer - it gets progressively more firm.

The best analogy for this is a muffin. Once the ingredients are in the mold, the polymers (including polybutadiene) are heated and exposed to other compounds to cross-link the chemical bonds within the material. This makes the materials in the core stronger and more resilient leading to faster rebound capabilities… A heck of a lot of science right?

So how does this actually relate to a muffin? Thanks to constant refinement of the process, the engineers behind Titleist golf balls can “bake” a very firm outside of the muffin to get a nice crust, while still keeping the inside of the muffin nice and moist—more moist in the middle and more crusty on the outside equals a more gradient internal structure.

This also applied to the dual-core construction of the ProV1x.

“What makes this job equally challenging and rewarding is the feedback from the best players in the world," Madson said. "If they wanted us to completely overhaul the golf ball it would almost be easier to start from scratch, but they like the performance we’ve been able to engineer into the Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls, which is why when they ask for something like more control, without sacrificing distance, we have to look at every part of the process to make refinements. And, after prototype testing and feedback, we know we’ve achieved our goal with these new balls.”

388 Tetrahedral Dimple Design

The dimple pattern used on the Pro V1 is designed to offer a more penetrating flight for golfers who need a flatter trajectory.

Spherically Tiled 348 Tetrahedral Dimple Design

The dimple pattern used in the Pro V1x is designed to work in tandem with the dual-core design to create a higher trajectory without compromising on consistency through the flight of the ball.

Steeper spin slope

Thanks to the new core, both the Pro V1 and Pro V1x offer a steeper spin slope for enhanced control. This means that as golfers transition through the bag, long game and driver spin stays low for extra distance but more spin is added / achievable into the scoring clubs for additional control.

Comparing Pro V1 to Pro V1x

For those golfers who are trying to decide between the new 2025 Pro V1 golf ball models here's the breakdown:

The Pro V1 offers a softer feel and maximum short game spin to go along with its low long game spin and mid-trajectory ball flight. Compared to Pro V1, Pro V1x has a firmer feel and will fly higher and generate more spin on full-swing shots.

The new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls will be available in golf shops worldwide starting on January 25th and will be priced at $55 a dozen.

They will come in both white and high-optic yellow options and immediately upon release will have enhanced alignment options available through customization, which includes more than 40 different alignment aid designs.

Custom play numbers 00-99 will also be available through Titleist.com and your local Titleist account.
