New Clubs Helping These Players at the Memorial

Sometimes, PGA TOUR players need a little spark to get their games headed in the right direction, and the fun thing is that spark can come from anywhere: a swing tip, a feel found on the range, or, in the case of Tommy Fleetwood and Justin Rose at this week's Memorial, that spark has come from some new clubs.

For Tommy Fleetwood, his new club is a TaylorMade Spider Tour X (below), built in similar fashion to the Spider Tour he used to win the FedExCup last August. (Previous model above.)

The difference in the Tour X model is the smaller back wings, and TruePath alignment built into the geometry of the head. Tommy's personal model uses the same alignment as the Spider ZT. This has helped put Tommy firmly inside the top 10 going into the weekend, and also has him at an average of +1.437 strokes gained per round on the greens which is a huge improvement over his TOUR average this year of -0.064.

A more than +2.0 turn around.

The other player whose game has turned around this week is Justin Rose, as he put into play a new set of raw McLaren Series 1 blades (below: Justin's previous chrome irons).

The switch into the new irons has been paying off well, since Justin has an average of + 1.598 strokes gained per round on approaching greens which is an improvement over his TOUR average this year of +0.475, meaning so far this week he's gaining a stroke per round. The only issue with his game appears to be his putting where he has lost more than 3 shots on the greens in the first two rounds.
