When you think of Adam Scott's most iconic moments on the golf course, there is a very good chance you likely remember him making winning putts with a long putter, and for good reason.
For the better part of the last 14 years, Scott has used several long putter options, including models from Scotty Cameron and L.A.B., and I'm fully willing to admit that when I got my first job in the gear business working as a summer tech rep for Titleist many years ago, I made it my mission to get one of those putters as soon as possible. I still own it to this day.
But this week at the BMW PGA, being held at Wentworth, Adam Scott has teased via his Instagram that he is rolling back the clock to 2011 (for you fact sticklers, he did briefly go back to a conventional putter for a short period in 2015), by putting a conventional length putter back in the bag.
Based on Adam's own post, he has put one of L.A.B. Golf's newest OZ1.i HS (heel shafted) models into play for the week.
This is the first heel-shafted putter from the very popular putter company, which makes it appear more like a conventional putter from address, and allows for a full sightline of the top of the putter and into the flange (the back cavity part).
As for grip, pictures from the ground show that Adam is using L.A.B. Golf's Press Pistol 2 Degree grip which helps to place hands in a neutral postion slightly infront of the putter head by having a built in 2° of forward press build right into the grip.
As a golfer known for constantly tinkering, it will be interesting to see how Adam's first round plays out on Thursday at Wentworth, and as a fellow tinkerer myself I can't wait to find out!
After a ho-hum first round, it looks like Adam has gone back to his trusty L.A.B. Golf long putter for the second round - I mean it was fun while it lasted.
