What I Know About Shopping for Golfers (Father's Day Edition)

What do you get a man who has everything for Father’s Day? Even more perplexing, what do you get a man, who is a professional golfer, who has everything for Father’s Day? I’ve been asking myself this for eight years now since we first expanded our family with a dog, but I still haven't found the answer to the ideal gift predicament.

Every year that I peruse the retail stores’ Father’s Day set ups and endlessly scroll the internet for the perfect gift, golf always seems front and center. I know better than that though. My husband is a professional golfer who has a new equipment or apparel delivery on the porch almost weekly from a sponsor. There is nothing golf related he needs nor wants.

Although I logically know better than to shower him with golf memorabilia that will almost inevitably end up stashed in the back of a closet or storage bin in the garage, it does not stop me from doing just that.

Over the years, I have presented him with a range of golf themed gifts, including:

A Disney golf ball and tee set that I picked up on a family trip in Orlando back before I even really understood what he did for a living.

The golf towel with our dog Brad’s pouty face on it.

A few rounds of golf socks featuring all the dogs’ mugs.

Numerous adorable golf themed art projects from our daughter. (Also one of my favorite's for Mother's Day)

...And don’t even get me started on all the golf inspired Father’s Day cards. We could probably cover a wall or two in the house with them.

With every year and every golf related Father’s Day gift accepted with feigned enthusiasm, I have realized that the perfect gift is simple. Like most instances in life, men just want you to listen and affirm their love and quest of the game.

The nice thing about this realization, is that there is no cost or even knowledge required, and you no longer need to worry about finding the latest golf trinket to sign your child, or dog’s, name to. Realization and advice aside though, I could not resist picking up a “Dad Jokes, Golf Edition” book to keep the streak alive at least another year.
