The new U.S. Ryder Cup uniforms and practice fits have officially landed, and once again Polo Ralph Lauren has the honor of dressing the team. Today’s unveiling showed off a wide range of pieces, from striped polos to quarter zips, tailored pants, sweaters, and outerwear, all wrapped in the familiar palette of red, white, and navy. There is no shortage of variety here, and you can see Ralph Lauren leaning into its heritage while weaving in the more technical RLX DNA that has been central to its modern golf line.
Where They Got It Right
From a silhouette standpoint, they exceeded my expectations. The collars, the jackets, the sweaters, the pants, there is a nice rhythm to how the collection balances structure. The heritage nods are there, but they are not heavy-handed. Instead, they are met halfway with new age details and RLX design. That convergence makes sense not only for uniform days but also for practice rounds, which are often overlooked but carry their own unique presence.
As far as individual pieces go, the Ralph Lauren 2025 Ryder Cup Flag Sweater in Refined Navy stands out immediately. It is clean, patriotic without being cartoonish, and it carries a timeless quality that will age well in Ryder Cup photo archives. The U.S. Ryder Cup Packable Jacket also deserves mention—a functional piece that checks both performance and aesthetic boxes.
Where It Missed for Me
Now, the branding. The USA typeface feels a bit too playful. The integrated shooting star in the S and the flag folded into the A are clever on paper, but sometimes clever tips into overdone. Representation through design only works when it is sharp and restrained, and here it leans toward busy.
The Monday practice polo is another sticking point. The abstract brushstroke design has echoes of a 90s Jazz paper cup, which does not quite land for me. With Ralph Lauren’s archives, especially the Polo Sport collections, they had an opportunity to pull from some of the strongest color blocking and scripting in all of sports fashion. A few of those references, married with RLX’s technical know-how, could have elevated this collection into something much more lasting.
Just My Thoughts
Golf uniforms may have the smallest approval window in all of sports. They are scrutinized instantly and remembered for years. These sit somewhere on the fence for me. Not bad by any means, but not groundbreaking either. With a few adjustments to the scripting and more intentional pulls from Polo Sport history, this could have been a home run. Instead, it is a solid double.
