What officially kicks off the United States Open each year? Is it the first tee shot on Thursday? The first practice round ball in the air Monday? I do not know. But I know the 125th playing of the championship kicked off Tuesday morning, June 10, when the undisputed king of pro golf style showed up in a pair of American flag shorts.

Now, I'd be the first to scoff at you for showing up for a holiday barbecue of any sort in these. Empty Patriotism does nothing for me. But these here is The United States Open. And sure, Jason Day hails from Australia, but that's exactly why I love the move so much.
Read the room. Know your audience. And show your respect to the national open. Especially here in the heart of blue collar coal country (or at least that's not too far the affluent Oakmont.)
