AUGUSTA, GA — Opening day at Augusta always reveals exactly where the game is headed; not through swings or scorecards, but from the ground up. Shoes first. Always shoes.
This year, the script didn’t stray too far from tradition.
White dominated. Green followed closely behind. A few soft creams and off-whites filled in the gaps. It felt familiar in the best way possible, like the tournament itself leaning into its own mythology. Brands showed up with their seasonal interpretations of Augusta colorways. Most of them weer clean, safe, and, honestly, expected.
That’s not a bad thing. There’s something reassuring about it. Golf doesn’t need to reinvent itself every April.
But if you were looking for something that made you pause mid-watch, there was really only one choice.
Cameron Young’s pair.
What appears to be a Player Exclusive version of the FootJoy Premiere Series Packard quietly showed up without announcement, without marketing, without explanation. They featured a slightly tweaked palette, subtle detailing, and just enough differences to question why it hasn’t been released publicly.

This is the stuff that actually cuts through during a week like this. Not louder. Just rarer.
Everything else? Solid. Wearable. Very Augusta.
But that one pair…that’s the one we’re still thinking about. Rest assured that as soon as I find more about these, you will too.
