Of course I'm excited about the Ryder Cup, but tickets for next year's Solheim Cup just dropped and I already have Amsterdam on my mind. Bikes, tulips, stroopwafel—I need it all—oh, and the golf, too!
For the very first time, the 20th staging of Solheim will be contested in the Netherlands, and team captains Angela Stanford (USA) and Anna Nordqvist (Europe) are already getting into the spirit.
The two captains along with vice captains Caroline Hedwall and Paula Creamer peddled the same route that fans will follow when they travel to Bernardus Golf, September 7–13 2026.
It may seem silly to celebrate the official one year mark of the cup with some cycling, but sustainability is a commitment the championship and its participants are embracing in full force.
The NGF, the governing body of golf in the Netherlands, has a strong focus on making golf eco-friendly. Of the 314 GEO-certified courses worldwide, more than 100 of them are located in the Netherlands—and Bernardus Golf recognized as one of the most sustainable golf clubs in Europe.
During the week fans can expect a few greener changes like on-site parking being replaced with low-emission travel options, integrated ticketing, and last-mile solutions like the bike route the captains cycled. Other initiatives include renewable energy use, waste reduction, circular material sourcing, local catering, water-smart operations, and active nature restoration.
Stanford, who has been a part of six cups as a player and three as an assistant captain, will lead the American team for the very first time. She got a first look at the course this week.
