Shane Lowry arrived at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, CT, this week with a new caddie on the bag. Lowry separated from Darren Reynolds, who has been on Lowry’s bag full-time since February 2023, following a streak of poor play that culminated in a missed cut at last week’s U.S. Open.

While Lowry continues to search for a long-term solution, as reported by Golfweek, he has turned toward a familiar face in Dermot Byrne. Byrne held a 10-year stint as Lowry’s caddie towards the beginning of the Irishman’s career, making this more reunion than introduction.
Lowry’s PGA TOUR season began with a top-10 finish at Pebble Beach, , but his year has been defined by near-misses and frustration since. Most notably, he let a late three-shot lead slip away at the Cognizant Classic before missing the cut at last week's U.S. Open.
The 39-year-old has some history at the Travelers Championship, the final Signature Event on the 2026 PGA TOUR calendar, tallying a 9th-place finish in 2024. The course, one of the shortest on TOUR at just over 6,800 yards, should fit Lowry’s game.
With The Open Championship–Lowry’s lone major victory in his career–looming in mid-July, the timing of the move feels significant. Whether Byrne remains on the bag beyond this week remains to be seen, but Lowry is clearly searching for a spark.
