On March 16th, Phil Mickelson sent out a pipping-hot take: Scottie Scheffler wouldn’t win before the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black in September.
That was on Sunday of THE PLAYERS Championship, a tournament in which Scheffler was the back-to-back defending champion. He finished the tournament in a tie for 20th.
Even at the time, the take was questionable at best. I mean, this is the best player in the world we’re talking about. To Phil’s credit, it was a hot take. Some people like to label mild opinions as hot takes, but that wasn’t the case here. That thing was on fire.
However, it only gets worse as time passes.
Since Lefty hit send on that bad boy, Scottie has won three times in seven starts—THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, and the Memorial Tournament—and hasn’t finished worse than T-8.
I’m being told that’s good, but I’ll check my sources.
And for the cherry on top, Data Golf now says this is the best version of Scottie we’ve ever seen. Is Old Takes Exposed still around?
