Sam Burns was Keegan Bradley’s final captain’s pick for Team USA, and it meant a lot to him. The call between the two PGA TOUR stars was #TheGoodStuff.
Burns is the best putter in the world—No. 1 in Strokes Gained: Putting this season—and will undoubtedly lean on that strength at Bethpage Black next month. Burns made his Cup debut in Rome two years ago and went 1-2-0. But at last year’s President Cup, the World No. 22 went an undefeated 3-0-1.
He’s not going to be along for the ride in New York as a captain’s pick; he’ll be there to lead the way to points.
A few weeks ago, Burns caught up with Skratch’s Dan Rapaport for an episode of Between Two Shots and was asked who brings the best vibes in the Team USA locker room. His answer? Xander Schauffele.
Most of the Americans will tee it up in Napa at the Procore Championship in a few weeks for a final tune-up—Bryson DeChambeau will be missing for obvious reasons. Then they’ll head to Bethpage for the biennial event versus the Europeans, a team that will be absolutely loaded.
The three tournament days are September 26-28.
